Llyn Hir at around 20 acres is very long and narrow, with gin clear water and for the most part steep, rocky banks. The trout here tend to be larger and of better quality than the other lakes in the area, perhaps due to limited spawning ground, which means there is more food to go round. Due to its clarity and low stock density this lake is always the most challenging, but if you can get one, it’s usually a golden specimen of over a pound in weight. Tickets can be booked online with the Fishing Passport. Fly fishing only.
