The Wye & Usk Foundations Fishing Passport has game fishing for salmon and wild brown trout on the River Usk on the Ashford House beat. The Ashford House beat extends for about a mile below Talybont Bridge. The beat enjoys good hatches of fly typical of the Usk and offers a good variety of pools, runs and riffles. As such, the beat lends itself to fishing by a variety of methods and trout exceeding two pounds can be caught here. Whilst there are some deeper parts, the river can be accessed for much of its length downstream of Talybont Bridge as far as the Chain Pool. Downstream of the Chain Pool another gravel section can also be accessed before the river deepens into the Blue Pool. After crossing the fence into the lower field by the Blue Pool, the river is deeper but can be entered when water levels are low enough, and good fishing can be enjoyed here. The lower part of the long pool above the bottom limit of the fishery can be fished upstream until it becomes too deep to wade. Parking is around 200m from the river.
