Rhayader and Elan Valley Angling Association has fishing on several rivers in and around the surrounding area. This induces five miles of the River Wye at Rhayader. This part of the Wye has trout, grayling and the odd salmon late in the season. The club also has fishing on the river Elan, which is a tributary that rises in the Cambrian mountains and runs through the Elan Valley. The Elan is usually fishable after heavy rain due to the effect of the dams. Elan has grayling and trout. The association also has the Marteg, a small upland river that feeds into the Wye north of Rhayader. This has wild brown trout. Day tickets are available from D. Powell, Newsagents, West St., Rhayader or Hafod Hardware in Rhayader.
