Monmouth and District Angling Society has wild brown trout fishing on the River Trothy. The River Trothy is a small river with steep banks in many areas and overhanging tree growth making fishing difficult. However, it has Mayfly in abundance in May and June and offers a real casting challenge to the fly fisher with a light rod. The waters are permanently coloured. The lower part of the Trothy at Monmouth has coarse fish species typically found in the Wye, in addition to trout.
