The Ebbw has excellent fishing for wild brown trout and is considered one of the best rivers in Wales for sheer numbers of fish with a high average size approaching a pound. Fish over 4lb are caught each year.

The river has great fly life and good dry fly fishing. It has hosted Welsh fly fishing team trails and international river competitions in recent years, a testimony to how good the fishing is.
