Glamorgan Angling club have fishing on the River Ely, from the St Fagans area down to the Cardiif bay barrage lake. The upper stretch has brown trout, grayling and a few coarse fish. Lower down there are chub, pike, grayling, silvers and eels. The river has been re-stocked in early 2021 with a variety of coarse fish species, including barbel.
